Vicoforte Dome

Here, between the hills of the southern Piedmont, stands the fifth largest dome in the world, the Vicoforte Dome. The largest elliptical dome that was ever built. Just a few minutes outside the city of Mondovì you will live an incredible experience. Walk through the ancient walkways inside the Santuary, climb up to 105 feet high and admire the large and colourful frescos from the painters perspective. After a panoramic stop on one of the inside balconies, you will reach the very top of the copper dome and conquer its 177 feet high.  Along the way, learn about the history of this unique site once a crossroad of merchants, travellers and pilgrims. This is a 130 steps journey to the first balcony, and a total of 266 steps to the top of the Dome of Vicoforte.
