Welcome to
Piedmont!
A land of many landscapes & and stories,
A region of sacred mountains & castles,
A place of various colours & tastes.
Piedmont owes its name to its geographical position. Piedmont means “at the foot of the mountain” and three sides the region is, in fact, surrounded by the Alps. We are in the north west of Italy where the country borders with France and Switzerland. The region’s capital, Torino, became Italy’s first capital city when the country was unified. Still today, it is possible to visit the numerous palaces and royal residences that the Royal family built in the very heart of the city and her surroundings. Travelling north or west from Torino, you will soon reach the Alps and the Lakes area.
Travelling south instead, you will encounter the rolling landscapes of the wine region of Langa, a UNESCO world heritage site since 2014 and known for its history and beauty. Here food and wine culture meets the tranquillity of countryside life. Take your time in enjoying the vineyards, the medieval castles, the little villages and their restaurants and walking the many paths that merchants, soldiers and pilgrims once walked from the coast to hilly Piedmont. And don’t forget to taste the black and white truffles that the region is famous for!
